_POLO-grafia_ Silesian Western Movies text: Józef Kłyk. A one-man institution: director, cameraman, actor, screenwriter, makeup artist, sound director, storyteller and first of all a great local patriot . eulogist of Silesia. He is the second best-known Polish film maker after Kazimierz Kutz who explores the theme of Silesia. His fascination with cinema began in his childhood and he has come down in the history of cinematography thanks to his westerns. One of them, entitled Człowiek znikąd (The Man from Nowhere), belongs to the collection of the Autry Museum of Western Heritage in Los Angeles...
_BIO-grafia_ Sówka Erwin text: Olaf Cirut. (...) Our Lord didn't create a tawdry world. Tacky people did. My world is as natural as the seasons. Soon I will be gone - I'm almost 70, so I want to leave a legacy. I keep saying: "Dear Lord, I haven't done everything yet... And He replies: "Work, my lad, you will do as much as you are allowed to." But it's not that simple to give sense both to artistic work and personal life, to teach the paintings how to speak to viewers. Every painting must be carefully thought over. I look for beauty in art, because my works will be viewed by people who want to experience beauty...
_POLI-grafia_ Danger! text: Sylwester Holc. The "Pokój" coal-mine in Ruda Śląska is one of the oldest mining plants in the Upper-Silesia Coal Basin, which relies heavily on very complex machinery. Surprisingly, this industrial setting is favourable for art, as the example of Ryszard Pajdzik, the author of a series of colourful information signs, shows. The artist worked at the mine till retirement...
_POLI-grafia_ A Trip text: Dorota Jędruch. One day all the cosmic signs on earth will gain a deep significance never seen before  - corn circles will begin to swirl, soaked up with luminous matter, and rise into space, the pyramids of Egypt will start underground engines that archaeologists failed to discover and will fly to the ancient pharaohs' pure land of eternal bliss (...) But on that very day, will any force also shake the huge flying saucer-shaped concrete edifice in Katowice? Will it rip massive pillars out of the unsteady ground, light up the "pilot's cabin" inside the dome, start a complex system of dusty devices hidden under the roof slanting at a jaunty angle, and launch the entire machinery towards its destination in the universe?
_POLI-grafia_ No limits text: Redakcja. Technical Equipment Plant in Gliwice is the major foundry in Poland and a world-leading one manufacturing sculptures, artistic works and precision elements for shipbuilding and mining industries. After the Second World War the company executed nearly 160 large monuments and innumerable smaller projects...
_MONO-grafia_ City center developed on ruins text: Piotr Bujas. The architectural potential of postindustrial sites and buildings has been recognized quite early. Revitalization is currently perceived as a major challenge in the well-developed as well as developing countries...
_GEO-grafia_ The Coal Mining Museum in Zabrze text: Igor Metz. Particularly impressive are invaluable technical drawings from the 18th and 19th centuries. Given the precision and artistic technique of their execution, they could easily compete with the best examples of contemporary graphic design works. At the heart of the collection are individual mining operations: coal getting, dewatering, transportation, mine rescue work, communication and measurements...
